Here's how to clean a lululemon belt bag

Sometimes even a lululemon belt bag needs a little TLC. Lululemon's Everywhere

Sometimes even a lululemon belt bag needs a little TLC.

Lululemon's Everywhere Belt Bag is one of the internet's most coveted accessories, gaining TikTok fame for its versatility, usefulness and sleek colorways. It's my go-to when walking my dogs, navigating the airport, and on day trips. I own four of them – black, sage, pink, and white.

I noticed my pink one was getting a bit dirty and was about to wash it when I realized the bag's care label said it can't be washed or dry cleaned. In disbelief, I checked the company's website, and they recommend to spot clean. While the bag isn't that over-the-top pricey at $38, I’d like to be able to use it over a long period of time. So, I decided to treat the bag like my delicate clothing and put it in the washing machine anyway.

The results? Not only did my bag emerge clean and free of spots and stains, but it was also as good as new. If your bag is also in need of a little TLC, here's an easy step-by-step guide to washing your own lululemon belt bag.

Because the company recommends spot cleaning, gently try to remove any stains prior to washing. Use a detergent that's effective, like OxiClean mixed with some warm water and a washcloth to scrub off any dirt and stains. Small stains are easily removed because of the bag's durable, water-repellent fabric. However, over time, it'll eventually need a full wash if used regularly.

I wash all my delicate items in a thick mesh laundry bag to protect them while in the washing machine. Make sure the mesh laundry bag you choose fits the Everywhere Belt Bag (its dimensions are 7.5" x 2" x 5") and isn't too oversized. You can put other items in the wash as well, but make sure they aren't too bulky like jeans or jackets. I like to put some towels in the load to cushion the strap buckle.

Once your items are inside the washer, select cold water, and run on a gentle cycle. If your washer asks how dirty the load is (light/medium/heavy), select light. Choose a detergent that is formulated for delicates and fine fabrics and place a small amount in the designated spot.

A typical gentle cycle runs approximately 30 minutes. Once complete, remove your belt bag from the mesh laundry bag and lay it flat to dry. Your bag should look as good as new. If stains persist, try running the bag through the wash one more time.
